III.            Call the emergency medical services by dialing 911 or send someone to call for help.
IV.            Remember, CPR can enable in keeping a person alive but they need additional care to start their heart. If you are on your own, and a phone is handy, call for an ambulance before you start CPR. Try to bring the phone with you to the patient.
      V.            Open and clear the airway of the victim if something is there. If you see anything in the patient’s mouth, use two fingers to sweep it out.
VI.            Check for the breathing of the victim.
VII.            Start CPR if the person isn’t breathing normally.

Performing CPR
After positioning the victim on the back,
        I.            Place the heel of ONE HAND in the center of the chest.
II.            Place the heel of your OTHER HAND directly on top of the first hand.
III.            Keep elbows locked and lean over the patient so your arms are straight.
IV.            Push down hard and fast 30 times (push down one-third of chest depth).
      V.            Do not worry about pushing too hard – good CPR requires you to push hard and fast.
After you’ve completed 30 compressions on the chest, perform 2 rescue breaths.

Performing Rescue Breaths
        I.            Tilt the head back with one hand and lift the chin with the other.
II.            Take a deep breath and seal your lips around the patient’s mouth.
III.            You need to block the nose by pinching the soft part of the nose or pushing your cheek against the nose.

IV.            Blow into the patient’s mouth until you see the chest rise.
      V.            Remove your mouth, take a fresh breath, and blow again into the patient’s mouth.
Try and get hold of an AED device and attach it to the victim at the earliest possible time and follow the prompts of the AED. AEDs are present in most public places and training is imparted in the CPR classes itself. The process of defibrillation can restore the life of a cardiac arrest victim by normalizing the heart rhythm.
