Although coronary artery disease (CAD) stays the primary killer in the United States, but you have got the ability to prevent a heart attack and maybe save your life. According to studies, simple lifestyle changes lower heart attack risk by eighty percent. Adopting healthy lifestyle measures can be beneficial for both men and women, and the good part is that they don’t require medication, surgery or expensive equipment.
Tips to prevent heart attacks:
Eat A Heart-Healthy Diet- Diet may offer protection against artery disease, and we are mainly referring to Mediterranean diet, which has long been known to be a heart-healthy way to eat that may also protect against peripheral artery disease (PAD). The Mediterranean diet particularly specializes in fruits, veggies, whole grains, beans, nuts, legumes, olive oil and flavorful herbs and spices; encourages eating fish and seafood at least a couple of times a week; relishing poultry, eggs, cheese and yogurt in moderation; drinking red wine in moderation and with meals; and regular exercise. The Mediterranean diet is the way to go if you want to keep yourself from developing any type of heart or vascular disease since the diet offers the highest in fiber, highest in omega-3 and the lowest in saturated fat.
Exercise- Experts recommend moving at a moderate pace for at least 30 minutes a day/5 days a week for real health benefits. For even better fitness, including better cardiovascular health, strength, flexibility, etc. –perform varying exercises. Perform at least 30 minutes of moderate aerobic exercise five days a week for the health of your ticker.
Quit Smoking- Smoking is the leading cause of preventable disease and death. Not only breathing problems and lung cancer, smoking is also the leading cause of cardiovascular (heart and blood vessel) disease accounting for over 400,000 deaths each year in the United States. So, find ways to quit that mainly involves two components, including managing the nicotine addiction withdrawal and changing your behavior or habits.
Alcohol Consumption- According to some recent studies, small amount of any alcohol, including wine, beer or just about any alcoholic beverage is seemingly associated with a lower risk of heart disease. But do not go overboard. Reducing heart disease risk is no excuse to increase alcohol consumption. It’s also important to take your doctor’s advice with how much consumption is good for your health.
It doesn’t matter how old you are adopting the above-mentioned lifestyle measures, it is never too late to look at healthful activities that can only pay future dividends. Talk to your healthcare provider about your risk factors for a heart attack or heart disease.
